My Approach
I first started out as a cynic of TCM, or what I had thought TCM was at the time.
My intentions were always to help others with their health through natural and preventative ways. Dietetics fit the bill for me in that way but the more I studied medicinal science, the more questions I found myself having when it came to chronic conditions. More often than not, there was no known cause to these chronic illnesses and they were just put together as a collection of symptoms often found to coexist, such as in the cases of IBS and PCOS.
This desire to figure out the “answers” pushed me to investigate deeper into TCM on my own time. That's when pieces started to come together. The human body never seemed more beautiful and the syndromes that once were so mysterious now had a reason. There is so much logic to our biology and chronic conditions within the TCM framework. Not only did I gain understanding, but with it came more control over even the symptoms I had felt over the years which were never fully explainable to me before that.
I cannot begin to describe the wonder of a world that I discovered through TCM.
"Does TCM and western nutritional science contradict each other"
is a common question I hear.
The short answer is “no” but only if you truly take the time to understand both perspectives in its entirety.
Why choose a Registered Dietitian?
Find a Registered Dietitian for your nutritional concerns because they are:

your trusted source of evidence-based nutritional guidance through rigorous education and training

trained to provide long term strategies that fit your lifestyle rather than prescribing quick fixes

committed to food-first changes rather than benefiting from your purchases of supplements

Acupuncture
In addition to managing your symptoms with food, your body may need an external catalyst to help it relax and to boost your organ functions.
This is where acupuncture using the Traditional Chinese Medicine framework comes in.
It is a powerful yet natural way to calm your mind and body. It can also regulate and strengthen your internal organs so that it can function more optimally.
The
Gut-Brain
Axis
It has only been in the most recent years that western medicine has started to understand the gut-brain connection.
Intuitively we have known this about our bodies all along. We get “butterflies in our stomach” when we are anxious, or just the thought of delicious food gets our stomach juices going.
Ancient Chinese medicine has had deep insights on this connection for hundreds of years and it may be the missing piece you didn’t know you’ve been looking for to add to your management of IBS or PCOS/PMS.
